The kidneys of her did not heal after she developed an infection that was septic and she was diagnosed with several organ failure. The process of peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis later was her new norm. After having spent 80 days in hospital, she went from being in danger of death to an extended recuperation journey. Angelica had completed a one-year dialysis treatment and a half, was now ready to undergo the biggest surgery of all: the replacement of her kidney. Her mother was the one who donated her kidney. Angelica as well as her mom underwent an organ transplant successfully on September 13th 2013 in two amazing hospitals that were close to one another - Emory University Hospital & Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston.
